CONNIE COOPER-EDWARDS: NURSING HER PASSION

Connie started her stock and child photography business in 2005. She works full-time as a registered nurse and as of now her photography is a part-time endeavor. Her husband bought her a DSLR five years ago, when he noticed that she was making great images with her point-and-shoot manual camera, and he thought she'd get even better results with a better camera. Connie says she didn't know anything about photography, but she couldn't leave that expensive camera just sitting in its box. She went out and bought books, read them and also practiced shooting. She took online courses and joined The National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) to learn how to edit her images using Photoshop. She attended live workshops. Ultimately, she started with stock agencies but has now branched into portraits and also shoots images for the company for which she works as a nurse.

What inspired you to go into portrait photography from a start in stock?

Two years ago in Seattle, when I saw you demonstrate kid wrangling at the BetterPhoto.com workshop, I thought, “Well, I can do that!” So now I'm shooting two to four families a week, and sometimes more.
